The successive victories of Liaoshen and Huihai Military Campaigns make Fu Zuoyi's Group of KMT in North China on tenterhooks. According to their particularities, the central committee of CCP adopt a policy of military attack and political disintegration. So the PLA's Northeast Field Group secretly enters Shang Hai Guan ahead of schedule and plugs in between Beiping and Tianjin, separating the Fu Zuoyi's group and encircling them without attacking at first so as to force them them to surrender. On Dec. 22, 1948, PLA inflicts heavy losses on Fu Zuoyi's crack unit, the 35th Army and the guarding troups in Zhang Jia Kou tries to breat out of the encirclement, only to be wiped out. On Jan. 14, 1949, the PLA launches attack on Tianjin and soon wins over, which makes the troups in Beiping unable to counterattack or escape.
